DC Universe: Titans Improving or Not (SPOILERS)

Updated: Dec 5, 2019

"Titans" has now been renewed for season 3. Complaints and praises were shown throughout the first season because of costumes, storylines, and acting. How could one forget the painstaking acting? The trailer of Titans had polar opposite reactions from when Robin say "Fuck Batman" which caused a shock throughout the community of comic book fans. Let's not forget the comments of Starfire looking like a hooker. Despite all of this, Season 2 is definitely a step up with more apparences from the other characters and having each character have their own episode to tell their individual story.

The acting has definitely improved but one has to admit that the audience have to give credit for the following actors: Brenton Thwaites (Dick Grayson-Robin), and Teagan Croft (Raven) for perfecting an American accent. The stand out of acting for this season is the one Curran Walters (Jason Todd) for his scene on the roof where he is completempting suicide. The thought process was executed well and there for the award for best acting is Curran Walters.

Now an issue that Titans had in the first season was the plot being quite slow and dialogue not being realistic or even addressed. It was seen in one of the latest episode of when Jason Todd was being blamed in the house for everything going wrong at the Towers. The reactions seemed quite counteractive because Jason was processing of being kidnapped from Deathstroke but the plot in the second season seems to be right on paced and even leave the audience wanting more from each episode. The end of season one plot seemed like two separate episodes but it was nice to get closure on the whole plot of Raven and her powers and then the second half was much brighter.

Lastly, the costume or outfits was a problem. A main offender was the character Starfire but after awhile, audiences could get used to the outfit and acknowledge this is not exactly like the comics. Starfire and Dick Grayson is portrayed as being older than the rest of the Titans which is different compared to previous cartoon of "Teen Titans."

With Titans going to have a new season, I am excited to see the evolution of Dick Grayson into Nightwing and see Garfield (Beast Boy) turning into different animals. Throughout season one Dick Grayson is having trouble moving away from the Robin identity which it will be relieving to see Dick as a new identity that he creates himself. In season one and season two Garfield aka Beast Boy is only known for turning into a tiger but comic book fans and fans of the original titans show knows that Beast Boy can turn into other animals and not just tiger.

The first season was about learning and trying to understand the tone of the show. Second season is about honing in on that tone and hopefully third season will be able to continue to improve on these issues.

I will still watch Titans and I do say that it has no doubt improved but there's always room for improvement by trying to make the Titans seem more like a team rather than a bunch of people having to be together because it's convenient.

That's all for the Titans Review.

Come back next week where I talk about The Flash Season Final.
