BTS's The Map of the Soul 7 digs deep into your Heart

Updated: Feb 27, 2020

BTS, the Korean boy band, had released their latest album, The Map of the Soul 7 on February 21st. BTS have been gaining attraction and success overseas after so many years being together.

BTS albums have stood out compared to other boy bands. The difference is mainly the fact that each member holds a song that connects to them. In other words, each member have solo songs that not everyone participant in but The Map of Soul 7 is different than their other albums.

The Map of the Soul 7 combines different sounds, instruments, and stories that connects well with audiences all around the world. The Map of Soul 7 album songs are filled with emotions and deep lyrics that one would not expect from a boy band. It tells a story about BTS beginnings and it connects well with their other albums.

The Map of the Soul 7 album takes an interesting point of view using psychology to explain shadow, id and egos and how BTS learned to accept all of their flaws from their shadows and their egos to become better human beings.

Not only does BTS explain who they are and who they hoped to be in the future their also dedicate a special song to the Armys which one cannot help but feel the emotions pouring out when listening to We are Bulletproof: The Eternal.

The lyrics of We were only seven but now we have you all can't help but make you clench your heart as the emotions and the realization of the lyrics come to you.

For anyone who does not know how powerful this song is then I'll break it down for you. BTS have released songs with the title of We are Bulletproof and We are Bulletproof Part 2. Both versions of the songs were heavy and angsty then the soft ballad version of We are Bulletproof: The Eternal. The evolution of these songs show how BTS thought it was just them but soon learned that they had a powerful army behind them which makes the song even more powerful and emotion driven.

Even with catchy hooks, BTS lyrics goes beyond the surface level than any other boy bands here in America. The Map of Soul 7 even has subunits from the rap line to the vocal line and solos and each song brings a different feeling than the next one.

BTS singles on this album are diverse from one another from ON being upbeat to Black Swan being a slower song. The singles tells audience different levels of songs that fans can expect from.

The single ON contains a unique sound than BTS previous albums singles. They used UCLA marching band to create a sound that is powerful and inspiring. The song ON is about the sacrifice that comes with working in the industry and learning to use the pain to motivate you to become the best you.

The Map of Soul 7 is a beautiful compilation of sounds, instruments and storytelling to invoke emotions paired with collaborations that will certainly make BTS even more household name than they already are. The use of choirs and marching band instruments is new to BTS and I hope that BTS continues to change up their style from writing, singing, producing and storytelling. Each song is a piece of the puzzle and is needed in order to complete the puzzle of the album.
